This list includes only peaks located on the European continent as defined by the International Geographical Union. Peaks outside Europe are excluded, even if they belong politically to a European country.
Examples of excluded peaks: Pico del Teide (Spain, Canary Islands), Gunnbjørn Fjeld (Denmark, Greenland), and Mount Scenery (The Netherlands, Caribbean Netherlands).
For transcontinental countries (Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan), the entry is the highest point within their European territory. Mont Blanc is treated as shared by France and Italy, with the summit on the border.
